Breaking News… Scouts to split Troop
Hi all, just before we break up for the summer, we thought you’d like to know about some incredibly important and exciting breaking news……
Everyone knows from the pleas for help that have appeared from the Troop repeatedly in recent months that we’ve been struggling with the Troop at the size it is with the feed through from two Cub packs only exacerbating the problem. We’ve put in place various processes and procedures to control things but being victims of our own success, we still continue to grow and could be starting the autumn term with a troop size of 50! Unbelievably and after much discussion we have agreed to open a second Troop night on Tuesdays from 7 - 9pm and our target is to begin after the October half term.
We’ll still need some buy in from you our parents to both make this possible and support our gallant leaders and we’ll be letting you know more details when we start again on Friday 12th September.
Parental help will be paramount and absolutely vital to the success of this undertaking, but our intention is that these requests will be manageable and not too onerous. Our current ideas are that we’re looking for:
1./ Another uniformed leader for each of the troop nights (as always with a successful and growing group)
2./ To continue with the successful use of sectional assistants (parent helpers) we’ve been running of late (Darrell, Fiona and Peter, thanks!)
3./ To find an administration assistant or two to manage the incoming and outgoing post so allowing the uniformed leaders to concentrate on providing and running the programme.
We’d like all our current Troop and especially the Patrol Leaders to remain with us until December, so even if your Scout turns 14 early in the autumn term, we want them to stay and assist us with the transition.
What we’d like everyone to do over the summer period is to start thinking about which night your Scout would prefer to attend as of October. The ideal is that we have a good spread of ages, experience and gender and we’ll be looking for Scouts to move voluntarily in the first instance, but will reserve the right to move Scouts (after discussion) to a different night if necessary.
We hope that you’ll join us in making this massive step forward a success for the whole group. This is a fantastic opportunity which we believe will be of benefit to all.
P.S. our second night back, 19th September we’ll be boating at the Viking Boating Centre in Richmond, details to follow, but again pencil this into your diaries now.
