The George Stanley Hall – Opening Ceremony Jan 1998 – 10 year Anniversary

Sunday, January 27th, 2008
3HH Group

It has now been 10 years since The George Stanley Hall (the 3rd Hampton Hill Scout Group Headquarters) was opened.

The Hall was officially opened by the Mayor of Richmond, Councillor Maureen Woodriffe and John Nielsen (Group Scout Leader at the time and now Life President of The Group) on 31st January 1998.

Take a look at the copies of the Newspaper pictures and articles from local papers at the time!

See if you can spot anyone you recognise? (Click on the picture for another picture and articles).

Were you in these pictures?

The building and grounds are well maintained and have been developed. As a Group we remain committed to making more improvements and ensuring that we maintain the building and facilities to a high standard.

We have been discussing how we might add a staircase in the lobby and create a new room in the roof space. We are also hoping to improve and refurbish the kitchen. These tasks are on our Group project list which we review and then try to find ways of taking them forward at Group Executive Meetings.

Thanks for those Amazon Referalls

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008
3HH Group

Many thanks to those of you who ordered your Amazon purchases via the 3HH website. As a result of this campaign we have raised a very respectable £104.77 (subject to any refunds due to items being returned). :-)

Amazon

This is a great achievement in that it is essentially free money for the group, easy to achieve and is no extra work for us.

As a reminder you can continue to place your orders through our Amazon link all through the year and in doing so, continue to generate some much needed extra funding for the group. Just use the search box on the right.

Thanks again.

Scouting provides adventure, challenge and opportunities for young people aged 6-25. We believe in helping our Members fulfill their potential by working in teams, taking responsibility, learning by doing and thinking for themselves. Members are guided and where needed, are lead and supported by adults. There are around 100,000 adults helping ‘scouts’ to achieve their full potential. We are working to make Scouting available to All and we are passionate and committed about what we do.

Not long till 2008 . . . what will the New Year bring?

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007
3HH Group

Just a few more days till the end of 2007. What a memorable year for Scouting and a year of achievements and successes at 3rd Hampton Hill. Numbers are again strong and the annual census Group Membership return in Jan 08 looks like it will give a healthy return – will we go above 150 in 2008?

2008 is the 60th Diamond Celebration Year for the Group. We already have a celebration camp planned for May at Walton Firs and no doubt there will be many other exciting and interesting activies to enjoy throughout the year. Watch these pages for more information and announcements . . . please also come forward and speak with any of the Leadership Team if you have any ideas or suggestions for events or activities to help Celebrate the Diamond Anniversary of The Group.

As always we are looking for additional adult support and help in the Sections which is vital to assist the Section Leaders with providing an active and varied programme. Please speak with your Section Leader early in the New Term and see what help you might be able to provide.

We have plans for a Spring Fayre early in March. We hope you will join us and support us in raising funds for the Group. Funds will be spent on more projects and tasks in 2008 which will continue to improve and maintain the Group Headquarters. We are also speaking with Hampton Hill Junior School about their possible plans to replace the Minibus which we share.

2008 is shaping up to being another busy year for The Group!

District Carol Service

Monday, December 3rd, 2007
3HH Group

We have all been invited to the Richmond Upon Thames Scout District Carol Service. Every Group and all Sections are invited.

** UPDATE 8 DEC 2007 – The carol service has unfortunately had to be been cancelled **

This is a district organised event where we’ll be joining with all other Richmond Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, so please can we encourage everyone to come along to witness the switching on of the tree lights, have a jolly good sing song and partake of some seasonal refreshments.

Gates open at 6:30pm and we will congregate in front of the White house for a 7:00pm start. The communal singing will finish around 8:00pm, at which point refreshments will be available.

As coats will need to be worn there is no need to wear full uniform, however, uniformed members should wear their Scarves. Everyone is welcome, parents especially so but need to stand back and let the youngsters and Leaders stand together.

When… Saturday 8th December
Where… Marble Hill Park, outside the White House
Times… Assemble from 6.30pm for a 7pm start and a 8pm finish
Who… All beavers, cubs, scouts, explorers and their parents and friends
Uniform… Not necessary, but group scarf should be visible.

Please do all try and meet up.

Celebrating Christingle

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007
3HH Group

This last Sunday saw 3HH join the congregation at St James’s Church in Hampton Hill for the annual Christingle celebration. It was a wonderful service taken by the newly appointed vicar.

Everyone had a great time and it certainly helped us reflect upon the real meaning of Chiristmas before we all get overtaken by events.

Protecting Walton Firs Campsite – Surplus Centenary Camp Funds

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007
3HH Group

Hi Everybody

Apologies but this letter has just arrived from the Richmond District regarding surplus funds from the summer Centenary Camp. It outlines the options to either have these returned or to use them as a donation to support the purchase of Walton Firs Campsite. Full details are in the attached letter. Responses are required by 8 December 2007.

It is entirely up to yourselves to decide on a refund, it’s £16 per eligible cub / scout. But as a Group we would strongly encourage you to consider supporting Walton Firs in this way to protect the site from developers and to ensure it remains available as a Scouting resource for your own children and for the many thousands of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to come.

To make things easy, the District have elected to use a “no response required” system. If they don’t hear from you then they will assume you are happy to donate your surplus. Please note as well that by making the donation we can claim Gift Aid for the Group, so this will directly benefit our our Cubs too.

So options are:

1) Do nothing, the District will donate your surplus to the Walton Firs Foundation.

2) Complete the tear off slip and return it as required and the District will issue a refund to you directly.

Thanks all.
