District Carol Service
Monday, December 3rd, 2007
We have all been invited to the Richmond Upon Thames Scout District Carol Service. Every Group and all Sections are invited.
** UPDATE 8 DEC 2007 – The carol service has unfortunately had to be been cancelled **
This is a district organised event where we’ll be joining with all other Richmond Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, so please can we encourage everyone to come along to witness the switching on of the tree lights, have a jolly good sing song and partake of some seasonal refreshments.
Gates open at 6:30pm and we will congregate in front of the White house for a 7:00pm start. The communal singing will finish around 8:00pm, at which point refreshments will be available.
As coats will need to be worn there is no need to wear full uniform, however, uniformed members should wear their Scarves. Everyone is welcome, parents especially so but need to stand back and let the youngsters and Leaders stand together.
When… Saturday 8th December
Where… Marble Hill Park, outside the White House
Times… Assemble from 6.30pm for a 7pm start and a 8pm finish
Who… All beavers, cubs, scouts, explorers and their parents and friends
Uniform… Not necessary, but group scarf should be visible.
Please do all try and meet up.
Celebrating Christingle
Sunday, December 2nd, 2007This last Sunday saw 3HH join the congregation at St James’s Church in Hampton Hill for the annual Christingle celebration. It was a wonderful service taken by the newly appointed vicar.
Everyone had a great time and it certainly helped us reflect upon the real meaning of Chiristmas before we all get overtaken by events.
Protecting Walton Firs Campsite – Surplus Centenary Camp Funds
Tuesday, November 27th, 2007Hi Everybody
Apologies but this letter has just arrived from the Richmond District regarding surplus funds from the summer Centenary Camp. It outlines the options to either have these returned or to use them as a donation to support the purchase of Walton Firs Campsite. Full details are in the attached letter. Responses are required by 8 December 2007.

It is entirely up to yourselves to decide on a refund, it’s £16 per eligible cub / scout. But as a Group we would strongly encourage you to consider supporting Walton Firs in this way to protect the site from developers and to ensure it remains available as a Scouting resource for your own children and for the many thousands of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to come.
To make things easy, the District have elected to use a “no response required” system. If they don’t hear from you then they will assume you are happy to donate your surplus. Please note as well that by making the donation we can claim Gift Aid for the Group, so this will directly benefit our our Cubs too.
So options are:
1) Do nothing, the District will donate your surplus to the Walton Firs Foundation.
2) Complete the tear off slip and return it as required and the District will issue a refund to you directly.
Thanks all.

Tuesday, November 13th, 20073HH 60th Anniversary – Design a Badge Competition
Friday, November 9th, 20072008 is the 60th Anniversary of 3rd Hampton Hill Scout Group.
To celebrate this wonderful milestone we are running a competition to design a new badge for all 3HH Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, ex 3HH Explorers and Leaders to wear on their uniform during 2008. Others will be able to use it for camp blankets or as a highly valued and exciting souvenir.
To recognise 60 years, the badges will be diamond shaped as shown on the right. What we need you to do is come up with a simple design that we could use that could represent “60”, 3HH, 1948 – 2008, Moving On Moving Up, Diamonds, or any other ideas you might have.
Resurfacing of Pathway – complete!
Thursday, November 8th, 2007Hopefully you will now have noticed and made use of the newly resurfaced pathway which takes you to the George Stanley Hall (the 3rd Hampton Hill Scout Headquarters). The completion of this task is a major achievement and will be of significant benefit to all users of The Hall. A very BIG THANKS must go to John W and Martin R for all their efforts and hard work in planning and organising this task. Many thanks also to all those that gave their time and worked so hard to finish this job.
Hampton Hill Lighting Up Parade
Monday, October 29th, 2007As usual, 3HH will be marching in the annual Hampton Hill Christmas Lighting Up parade on Friday 30 November at 1930 hrs . 3HH Beavers and Cubs will be attending. … Scouts will be doing their normal programme at the hall. It’s always an excellent event; please do come along and support us. Perhaps you might even be kind enough to stick some money in our collection bucket?
District Christmas Celebration
Monday, October 29th, 2007Celebrating 60 Years of Scouting at 3HH
Sunday, October 28th, 20072008 will be another milestone in the History of the Group. 3rd Hampton Hill was officially registered in 1948 and hence 2008 will be our 60th Birthday!
You can find more info about the Group by looking at the History Section.
3rd Hampton Hill (St James’s) was registered in 1948 by Stan Childs and George Casey (hence the name of the current scout headquarters, The George Stanley Hall).
We are just in the early stages of trying to design a suitable badge to mark this occasion – so watch this space for developments and more news.
The George Stanley Hall (our Headquarters) will also be 10 Years Old in 2008! We continue to make improvements to the building and facilities as time, resources and funding allow. Of most significance this year has been a new staircase and shelving in the camp store and a complete resurfacing of the main pathway. An important part of our success is having a dedicated HQ which we can use for all Section Meetings and a wide range of other events and activities.
If you have ever been a member of the Group, please get in touch with us via the enquiry page – we would love to hear from you and perhaps you can help us celebrate our 60th Birthday!
Reflections on WSJ Summer 2007
Sunday, October 28th, 2007
As I gaze out of the window this morning and watch the rain I transport myself back to the summer and a reservior full of young people enjoying water activities. Splash! (‘EauZone’) the water activities aspect of the World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) was held at Alton Water, near Ipswich in Suffolk. Every day 4000 participants took part in a range of water activities. A truly memorable experience for all those involved. To see all those happy smiling faces at the end of each session was a really fantastic sight which left you with a really good feeling and made all the hard work and preparation worthwhile.
Ouch – 20 tonnes of tarmac to shift!
Saturday, September 29th, 2007At last we hope to see the end of the annual “boggy pathway and soggy shoes” experience.
The beginnings of a new path emerged today.
Unfortunately due to recent rain the delivery truck wasn’t able to drop the load of new tarmac straight onto the pathway as hoped, but instead left it at the entrance to the main playing field. The only option was a load of “willing” volunteers and a fleet of wheelbarrows.
You can click on the picture to see more blood, sweat and tears…
But – we’re just about half way there now… With another 20 tonnes being delivered in a fortnight ready to start all over once more!
