3HH Group Beavers Cubs Explorers Scouts

All, as usual we’ll be collecting these vouchers as this superb scheme saves us money in being able to order sports, games and camping equipment and it doesn’t even cost us postage! Please do collect your vouchers and post them in the box in the HQ. What would be really great is if you can batch them up with rubber bands, adding a note of the number of vouchers enclosed as this will save us hours of counting. Please do get these in before the closing date (to be advised) though as every year we waste quite a number of vouchers as they come in after we’ve been forced to place our order. Many thanks in advance and just remember, every voucher donated helps to keep your subs down!

Scouts this week – Joint Meeting on Friday 26 Oct 12

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012

For those of you who were able to make the ‘Pilates’ last Friday we hope you enjoyed and it gave you food for thought, so on your return to home you have all put backpacks on your Christmas Wish Lists!

There will be no tonight (Tuesday 23 Oct) and instead we will be having a joint night on Friday down at Hampton Open Air Swimming pool….brrrrrrrrr! We have asked them to crank up the temperature as I have been informed that the weather is turning cooler on Friday but if David Walliams can swim the Thames, you can brave the dash from the changing rooms to the pool, no problem!

The cost per scout is the grand total of £2.40 (please bring in correct change) and then of course there are those beastly vending machines!

We are booked in to swim, frolic, etc between 7.30 and 8.30 pm, so will meet in the car park near the entrance between 7 – 7.15pm. That will give you a chance to ‘lard’ up before entering the pool at 7.30 pm!
Look forward to seeing as many of you that can make it and apologies to those of you who can’t. Have a happy half term and see you back at the hut on Tuesday 6th of November. As we are approaching that time again, please be careful around fireworks!!

Sainsbury’s Active Kids

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012
3HH Group Beavers Cubs Scouts

Well it’s been a bit of a quieter year for the Sainsbury’s Active Kids voucher scheme this time round. I don’t know whether it’s been the weather stopping us from going shopping, competition from the schools or people varying their shopping habits, however we still managed to collect some 1755 vouchers. As this is around half of what we usually collect, we’re going to bank them all this time round, saving them up for next year where we can put them towards a bigger order. Many thanks for all your returns and if you’re collecting Tesco vouchers, that scheme is still running so please get them to us.

Scouts Easter Camp Wrap Up and the Camp Donuts Recipe!

Sunday, April 8th, 2012

A quick round up for parents and scouts alike from John H…

Hopefully your scouts are now clean and warm after coming back from Easter Camp. I know that I was very glad to have a night of sleep last night without having to spend 15 minutes trying to warm up two sleeping bags, three layers of clothing, and a woolly hat!

Congratulations for surviving some very testing weather conditions (we apparently had a minus 2 on one night). It would appear that camp donuts were the firm favourite so I have attached the recipe below so your scouts can give you an example of what they did at camp.

I will try to find some photos, but I will say we were woefully short of leaders with cameras so they might be in short supply this time (my apologies on that one I just didn’t think I would have time to take those pictures and wasn’t wrong). So here’s a recap of what your scouts did at camp just in case as usual you can’t get the information out of them or the bog standard answer of “I don’t remember!” (more…)

Scouts Hammock ‘n Tarp Camp 2012 Photos

Sunday, March 11th, 2012

A massive congratulations to those that took part in the Hammock and Tarp camp last weekend. The weather was brilliant during the day and painfully cold during the night. We were thrilled to see you all there – especially since it was the first overnight experience camping out for some of the newer scouts. As particular highlights, Poppy was invested while dangling from the crate stacking and achieving her very first night away badge, and Emily and Tom nailed the final requirement for their Chief Scout Gold Awards – a huge well done guys!

Scouts Hammock & Tarp Camp 10th & 11th March 2012

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

We’re delighted to announce the 3HH Scouts “hammock ‘n tarp” camp. The camp will be run at the Walton Firs campsite in Cobham. Timings are early afternoon Saturday 10 March 2012 until mid-afternoon on Sunday 11 March 2012.
Please note that we only have limited places available. Hopefully we’ll be able to accommodate everyone who wants to come along, but priority will definitely be given to those needing their Outdoor Plus challenge badge as part of their final prep for the coveted Gold Chief Scout award.
This will be a reasonably low key and relaxed event; the perfect way to ease back into the camping season after the winter’s break. Upon arrival and settling in, we’ll spend the Saturday afternoon having a go at creating lots of different styles of tarp shelter “Ray Mears” style, playing some games, practising some fire lighting methods and then setting up our hammocks for the night. The next morning we’ll have a less than healthy fried breakfast, chill out a while and then try one of the site activities such as caving, climbing or crate staking. For Sunday lunch we’ll get the trangia stoves out and see who the best campsite master chef is!
Keep an eye out for an email with the Invitation and more details . . .

If you go down to the woods tonight…

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

How do you fancy a nice stumble around in the dark navigating between bases where strange and exciting tasks have to be performed?

Afterwards you’ll return to the campsite to grab a few hours much needed sleep and then enjoy a huge breakfast of bacon or sausage butties the next day, before returning home again around lunchtime. If you think that you are up for it then come and join us for the favourite event of the Scouting calendar: the “County Night Hike” on 24/25 March 2012!

So far the location is a big mystery and won’t be announced until nearer the time. But you can be sure it will be dark, rather muddy and perhaps even a touch spooky! :-)

Look out for the invite email and get your form in soonest. We’ve only a limited number of places and there’s a lot of you!

Scouts Spring 2012 Programme

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

We hope that you had an awesome Christmas, ate far too many sweets and are now looking forward to getting back to school / homework this week… ;-)

Just in case you were wondering our first nights back will be Tuesday 10th / Friday 13th January. There’s a ton of stuff organised for this term and we know that you’ll have a blast. Our first night back will be the usual games, sorting out patrols and grabbing a chance to chat about the term’s programme.

If youa re keen to know what we’ll be up to this term you check out the attached.

Looking forward to seeing you all next week and in the meanwhile, good luck with ironing your uniforms. Let’s see if everyone can make a real effort to come along in proper scout shirt, scarf and trousers … perhaps even with all your badges sewn on! (just in case you aren’t sure where the badges go you can check here)

All the best!

National Scout Air Rifle Championships 2011

Monday, October 17th, 2011
Explorers Scouts

With a heavy heart we returned the team rifle, team pistol and the Junior Connaught trophy (overall junior champions) when we returned to Bisley on Friday evening, ready to compete in this year’s competition. We also had quite a few team changes with most of last year’s winners having migrated up to Explorers meaning we were wondering how well our Scout team would do this year although we still had a really good number of competitors on our team. This of course did mean that we took our strongest ever Explorer team this year however even they knew they were competing in a very strong field. (more…)

Water Weekend – Far from a washout!

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Given the weather’s ups and downs this camp was perfectly named! But despite the monsoon like conditions on Sunday this year’s “Water Weekend” camp was yet another runaway success You’ll see from the photos that everyone from across the Scouting district had a brilliant adventure packed time away – Scouts and Adults alike.

A huge thanks to the team who pulled this monster event together!
