20081010 Safer Neighbourhood Police Visit

The 3HH Scouts were pleased to host a visit from representatives of the Hampton Hill & Fulwell Safer Neighbourhoods police team: PC Rhys and PCSO Lisa.

The scouts split into two smaller groups to discuss issues such as “stop and search” and personal safety / bullying. The officers also did some bicycle security marking for us and had a go at fingerprinting some of the scouts (the evidence of which went home with the scouts!).

Many thanks to Rhys and Lisa for their time.

Do you ever shop on-line with Amazon - perhaps you’ve even started your Xmas shop already?

If so, you could really help us by earning money for our Scout group by accessing the Amazon.co.uk website via the special link in the sidebar menu to the right.

No catches - it’s free money for the group!

Bike marking at Scouts - 10 October - Bring yer bike!

Scouts

A quick reminder that we have invited the Hampton Hill & Fulwell Safer Neighbourhoods police team to join us at Scouts this coming Friday. As well as having the chance to get to meet them, the Police Officers will also spend some time discussing issues such as stop and search as well as personal safety.

While with us we’re hoping that they’ll also be able to do some bike marking for anyone who wants it done. If you’d like to get you bike marked up - and as a result, increase the chances of getting it back again if stolen in the future - then please just bring it along with you on Friday (and make sure that you know your home post code!!) :-)

Cubs Swimming Gala - 17 October

October 6th, 2008 posted by Jon
Cubs Don't Miss!

Hi Everyone. What is it with this term…stuff never seems to stop happening!! Please see attached details of Cubs district swimming gala from Sara H:

Last year’s cub swimming gala was fantastic, with 3HH putting in a fine team performance. Looking for keen swimmers of all ages and abilities to take part.

There are races for two ages groups, with width and length distance. We need a lot of cubs to be able to take part in every race so please join in. (We had 7 cubs last year which meant we missed a race, and some cubs had to make super human efforts in several races. 10 would be better, and more fantastic). There are heats then finals which makes a minimum of 13 races - last year it was 19 !

We’re also seeking parents to help on the evening - Fiona (poolside champion in charge last year) has kindly agreed to run the evening, but she will need help. Salim (our secret parental swimming expert) has also offered coaching if anyone would like this, and can find a venue.

Attached details for your information. I am happy to co-ordinate, with Fiona in charge on the night. Do please let us know as early as possible so I can reply on Friday 10th with our entry. Details of preferred distance and stroke appreciated.

Many thanks Sara

Dayprowl, not quite a wash out….

With the full results still awaited, we are not yet aware of how well our teams did this Sunday beyond knowing that we didn’t win overall. 3rd Hampton Hill did however prove their mettle with all 12 participants turning up and walking the course for the day.

Our three PLs leading the team did really well with Alex’s team completing the course, Elliott’s team being forced to stop one base short much to their frustration and Gavin being a couple of bases short of completion which for him was a real achievement considering he started the day quite unwell.

All of our Scouts were winners as none of them gave up, all of them remained in good form and whatever their achievement their spirit makes me proud and showed true Scouting values. The team members were Will W, Will H, Tom H, Ruth, Tate, Rory, Ben M, Eddy, Sam S.

20080927 Ian Goddard Challenge The annual Ian Goddard Challenge for cubs was this year held at the Stockyard, Bushy Park. Despite the fog looking a bit weird at times, everyone had a fabulous time!

Overall it wasn’t our finest result in the final rankings, but well done to all the participants for giving it their very best effort. 3HH ran the fire lighting base for everyone to try their hand at. The Cubs also had the chance to try some kayaking and canoeing on The River Thames in Hampton.

Scouts go rowing - Splish Splash

20080919 Scouts Rowing Last Friday night, 3HH scouts moved from the HQ to go rowing at Richmond. OK, so it wasn’t the most elegant of rowing - and it certainly wasn’t the Oxford v Cambridge boat race - but everyone had a great time.

The river was running very fast that night, and the darkness was falling fast. But unperturbed we managed to drag ourselves up river towards Twickenham for 90 minutes and then shot back again with the current in about 10 minutes flat! :-)

You can click here for photos of the event.

Many thanks to Vic and the team at the Scouts Boating Centre in Richmond for hosting the night.

Sheila reflected on 3HH’s growth over those 60 years, as well as sharing a touching account of her experiences watching her son in the group.

Many of 3HH’s Beavers enjoyed an awesome day out at the annual Richmond Upon Thames District Beaver fun day; this year the theme was unsurprisingly all about the Olympics.

20080920 Beaver Funday and Sleepover Beavers from all over District met up at Walton Firs and had a simply brilliant time enjoying lots of different activities.

And for a lucky few, some Beavers also stayed over for a sleepover!
