In what has now turned into a firm favourite for the end of term celebration, both colonies of Beavers once again headed for the Sandown slopes.
The weather stayed fine, the Beavers had a riotous time and some were even lucky enough to be swum up to Cubs that night! What a brilliant time everyone had and a perfect way to mark the start of the Summer holidays.
The “early” colony…
And the “late” colony…

..and that’s Gradbatch not Gradback for the unitiated! Well as advised this was always going to be a different camp, however finding out belatedly that we were camped in one of the wettest places in England was mildly disappointing although it didn’t stop any of the activities; I suppose the family of ducks lodging with us for the week should have given us a clue!
Having just returned from a Fantastic Scout Camp in the Peak District I am posting this note a little later than usual.
I would like to wish everyone a wonderful Summer Break. Safe travels and happy holidays to all.
We had a good turnout at our Annual Celebration Event and I would like to say a very big thanks to the Executive, Leadership Team and all those that helped make this a successful and enjoyable event.
Also a very big thanks to all the adults at 3HH for a fantastic term and for providing Nights Away (Camps & Sleepovers) this Summer. I know that the Beavers had a great time at their sleepover and the Scouts had an exciting and memorable camp. I am certain that the Cubs will also enjoy their Camp which starts later this week.
Enjoy the summer and we will see you all again in September.
Please join us for our Annual Group Celebration Event on Sunday 18 July 2010 at 2pm. This is a chance to review the year, looking at our achievements and to see what we have planned for the coming year.
There will be a Bouncy Castle, Games and a BBQ plus refreshments.
All members, family and friends are welcomed and encouraged to attend this event. Please spread the word.
The event starts at 2pm at our Scout Headquarters; The George Stanley Hall, ‘The Triangle’, rear of Holly Road Recreation Ground.
A big thanks to all for the donations. Despite starting our collecting efforts quite late in the scheme, we still amassed 592 vouchers which we’ve banked ready for 2011′s scheme.
[Feel free to browse the photos. Note that these have been loaded in a low resolution format – if you’d like a high quality version of any particular photo, and are connected with 3HH Scouts, please email one of the section leaders to request.]
The Richmond Upon Thames Scout District are again running the incredibly popular and utterly fantastic “Water Weekend”. During the event, you’ll get an opportunity to try your hand at: sailing, canoeing, raft building, rowing and dragon boat racing! For those of you not already sporting them, this means you’ll have a clutch of new badges by the end of the camp.
The camp will take place at Thames Young Mariners in Ham, and will run from Friday 11th June at 18:00hrs until Sunday 13th June at 16:00hrs.
Unfortunately the camp will be limited to a fixed number for the whole of the District and 3HH will be allocated just 20 places – these will be offered on a “first come, first served” basis and as such we cannot guarantee you a slot.
What a fantastic day on Saturday 15th May, the occasion of the second ever 3rd Hampton Hill Scout Group Airgun Competition. Over 50 adults and juniors shot target rifle and pistol, competed in the knockout competition and got down in the dirt with field target.
So what is the title about? Well, Jacob won the overall 12 and under section, Sam won the 13-16 age range and dad Rob shared overall 1st place in the adult competition along with winning the KO, not forgetting mum Mandy coming in 8th!
So winners were
U13 – Rifle Lilly P, Pistol and Overall Jacob
U17 – Rifle Sam, Pistol Alex S, overall Sam
Adult – Rifle tie between Jon H and Rob with Rob taking gold with reference to the third card, Pistol Wend, overall tie between Wend and Rob
Knock out competition
(and yes we are going to sort out those darn boxes for next time)
Junior – winner Andrew O, runner up Will W, bronze to Jacob H and Rhiannon
Senior – Winner Rob H, runner up Jon H, bronze to John O and Wend W.
Congratulations to the latest Beavers who have worked really hard and earnt their fabulous Chief Scout’s Bronze Award. This badge is the highest award available in the Beaver Scout Section and marks the culmination of lots of hard work, adventure and most importantly .. FUN!
As staggering as it seems, some of the scouts don’t find tying knots very exciting. How odd
So to liven things up a little, we set them the challenge of building chariots and racing around the hall. Now that was more like it! (although we did have to ban them from attaching the blades to their axles like Queen Boadicea)
Do feel free to check out the photos and video to see more…
Well done folks… perhaps next stop the Roman Colosseum?!
Hi all, please see attached the Scout Summer Camp letter for our Peak District extravaganza at the end of July. This year we’ve gone for a complete change and are camping in a beautiful site in the south of the Peak District right next to a stream (hope no one sleep walks)!
We have a maximum of 36 spaces so application will be by post to ensure fair allocation and preference will be given to those still in the troop come July. There may be Young Leader spaces but this will be dependant on available seats, but do let me know if you’re ineterested.
Hi all, please see attached the super summer programme for Claws and Talons. Firstly a warning; we have a lot of variety this term which means that often Talons and Claws will be doing different things each week so please keep a close eye on the programme.
We’ll be entering two teams at this year’s NPL Water Rocket event so get some research in via this link, bring along your 2 litre bottles and kit and let’s see what we can do. The best rockets from Talons and from Claws will represent the troop at the event at 6pm on Wednesday 23rd June. P.S. if you have some old tennis balls, please bring these as they’re a necessary accessory (nosecone)!
Keep your eyes open for your troop’s backwoods cooking evening; we’ll be providing some food but of you want to eat yourself to a standstill don’t forget your own choice of food. You’ll also need to keep your eyes open for the water activity evening at Richmond and Superscout as these are on different evenings. We also have a joint wide games evening being run by the Claws team in June.
Activities, camps and outings include Dayprowl, the District Water Weekend, District Sports Competition (we are the current champions) and Borough Camp as well as Summer Camp (see seperate post). All this and we’ll end with our usual Great Parent Scout Cookout, rules attached.
Spring and Early Summer Update: As I write this it is another fab day! Fingers crossed for many more. The Cubs and Scouts both enjoyed glorious weather and had great camps. A big thanks to the leadership teams and group supporters for providing 2 more brilliant camps, and to the Cubs and Scouts themselves for getting stuck in and giving their all.
A belated Easter wish to everyone, hope you all found some time for some peace and quiet, and have enjoyed the Easter Break. Our thoughts are with anyone that might still be stranded somewhere and we hope you get home safe soon.
We collected our new trailer whilst we were at Scout Camp. This is a very welcome addition to our Group and I know it will be greatly used. A big thanks to Sheila and to Simon for all their hard work in getting us this trailer.
I know that all the Sections have a great Summer programme lined up along with more camping and lots of outdoor stuff to enjoy. There is still time to enter our Air Rifle Event in May. We will shortly be planning our annual celebration event which will take place before the summer break. There are still opportunities for more adults to join us in a number of roles within the Group. Please speak with any Section leader for more details.
Come and join the adventure at 3rd Hampton Hill and be part of the challenge and fun of scouting.
I look forward to seeing you and speaking with you all soon.
After all the worries of crummy weather we probably couldn’t have actually done much better, maybe a bit warmer at night perhaps?? Waking up to blue sky after blue sky was brilliant, let’s hope it’s a good sign for the rest of the year.
We’d like to say a MASSIVE thank you and well done to all of you Cubs for making the camp such a success as usual. We did some pretty challenging stuff this time like the aerial trek and the zipwire, but you all turned on the 3HH ‘can-do’ attitude and put all the worries behind you. But it’s not just the activities; you’re always there to help with setting things up, keeping the place tidy, WASHING UP and generally being useful. As a result we didn’t do a ‘Top Cub’ award, you each have your own strengths and you simply do your best all the time in whichever way you can.
A HUGE thank you also goes out to Jane for taking the lead on the cooking duties and to all the other support – adults Sarah, David, Linda, Andy, Claire and Fiona, young leaders Sam, Will and Ruth, our young-young leader Katie and our home contact Diana. Finally, thank you also to all the parents that took the trip out to Downe to deliver and collect your Cubs, especially for being on time on Sunday!!!
Superhero Summer Camp is being planned for August 4th to August 8th, and hopefully lots of you can come. If there are any parents out there that think they might like to come along for a few nights under canvas, some late nights, woodsmoke, singing and a whole lot of fun then let us know, these things can be arranged!
Of particular note, there were some FANTASTIC cakes that arrived on the first day, they were very much appreciated (especially the rock buns with raspberry jam in the middle – the Cub that brought those can DEFINITELY come on camp again!!!)
Cheers everyone, thanks again and see you all soon.
Wow – What a camp: fantastic weather (a complete absence of snow, mud, hail, rainstorms etc!) and no real dramas.
Everyone had a brilliant time with all the scouts talking about different things that stood out for them. My personal favourites were the visit to the Snow Centre, building some hedging and potholing at night But there were lots more activities to choose from as potential highlights.
There’s a heap of photos for you to see on the group website – please do take a few minutes to have a browse. And if you would like a full resolution version of any then please do let me know.
On a final note, a massive thanks to all the adult team who made the camp possible either during the week itself, transporting scouts to and from camp, or helping out in a multitude of other ways. And although the camp simply wouldn’t have possible without them… you’ll see from the photos that they all had masses of adventure as well the Scouts themselves.
