Fancy messing about on the water? Scouts Water Weekend Invitation 11-13 June 2010

Monday, May 17th, 2010
Scouts

The Richmond Upon Thames Scout District are again running the incredibly popular and utterly fantastic “Water Weekend”. During the event, you’ll get an opportunity to try your hand at: sailing, canoeing, raft building, rowing and dragon boat racing! For those of you not already sporting them, this means you’ll have a clutch of new badges by the end of the camp. :-)

The camp will take place at Thames Young Mariners in Ham, and will run from Friday 11th June at 18:00hrs until Sunday 13th June at 16:00hrs.

Unfortunately the camp will be limited to a fixed number for the whole of the District and 3HH will be allocated just 20 places – these will be offered on a “first come, first served” basis and as such we cannot guarantee you a slot.

To see photos from last year’s camp please click here.

If you want to come along, please make sure you return your form with full payment to Paul C without delay.

Pirates of the Caribbean – Cubs Easter Camp

Cubs

Hello Pirate Campers!

After all the worries of crummy weather we probably couldn’t have actually done much better, maybe a bit warmer at night perhaps?? Waking up to blue sky after blue sky was brilliant, let’s hope it’s a good sign for the rest of the year.

We’d like to say a MASSIVE thank you and well done to all of you Cubs for making the camp such a success as usual. We did some pretty challenging stuff this time like the aerial trek and the zipwire, but you all turned on the 3HH ‘can-do’ attitude and put all the worries behind you. But it’s not just the activities; you’re always there to help with setting things up, keeping the place tidy, WASHING UP and generally being useful. As a result we didn’t do a ‘Top Cub’ award, you each have your own strengths and you simply do your best all the time in whichever way you can.

20100407 Cubs Easter Pirate Camp

A HUGE thank you also goes out to Jane for taking the lead on the cooking duties and to all the other support – adults Sarah, David, Linda, Andy, Claire and Fiona, young leaders Sam, Will and Ruth, our young-young leader Katie and our home contact Diana. Finally, thank you also to all the parents that took the trip out to Downe to deliver and collect your Cubs, especially for being on time on Sunday!!!

Superhero Summer Camp is being planned for August 4th to August 8th, and hopefully lots of you can come. If there are any parents out there that think they might like to come along for a few nights under canvas, some late nights, woodsmoke, singing and a whole lot of fun then let us know, these things can be arranged!

Of particular note, there were some FANTASTIC cakes that arrived on the first day, they were very much appreciated (especially the rock buns with raspberry jam in the middle – the Cub that brought those can DEFINITELY come on camp again!!!)

Cheers everyone, thanks again and see you all soon.

Wow – What a camp: fantastic weather (a complete absence of snow, mud, hail, rainstorms etc!) and no real dramas.

20100406 Scouts Easter CampEveryone had a brilliant time with all the scouts talking about different things that stood out for them. My personal favourites were the visit to the Snow Centre, building some hedging and potholing at night :-) But there were lots more activities to choose from as potential highlights.

There’s a heap of photos for you to see on the group website – please do take a few minutes to have a browse. And if you would like a full resolution version of any then please do let me know.

On a final note, a massive thanks to all the adult team who made the camp possible either during the week itself, transporting scouts to and from camp, or helping out in a multitude of other ways. And although the camp simply wouldn’t have possible without them… you’ll see from the photos that they all had masses of adventure as well the Scouts themselves.

Well done to all!

Simon

Final call for Scout camp places

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010
Scouts

owlThere are now just 5 places left for this year’s Easter Scout Camp. Based at Phasel’s Wood (near Hemel Hempstead) we’ll be away from Tuesday 6th April to Saturday 10th April 2010.

We’re planning to do a number of site activities including climbing, potholing, cresta run, archery and a “mystery” hike – as well as teaching lots of “scouting” skills. We’ve also included a visit to the local snow sports centre where the Scouts can choose either skiing or snowboarding on real snow. It’s going to be a simply brilliant week.

If you want to come along, please make sure you return your form with full payment to Simon without delay.

Expedition Hike Camp Triumph

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009
Scouts

Although it was organised as a bit of an experimental format camp for us (just like BP’s original), 3HH’s Scouts more than rose to the occasion. This 30km round trip expedition was intended to give the Scouts a little more added adventure, try their hand at Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) style lightweight hiking and to generally mix things up a bit. And what a complete success!

We’ll add more photos when we have 2 minutes to gather ourselves, but as a quick snippet of what we got up to please click on the photo below…

Scouts

20090515 Scouts Water Weekend Camp 24 of our Scouts from 3HH joined up with nearly 200 others from across the Richmond Upon Thames District to enjoy an action packed programme. This year’s Water Weekend camp surpassed even last year’s brilliance.

While the weather was very changable with some strong wind and heavy showers, 3HH were more than up for it! Kayaking, dragon boat racing, sailing, raft building and rowing kept them all very busy. The weekend was topped off with a monster camp fire on the Saturday evening. Fantastic.

Scouts Summer Camp Invite

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009
Scouts

Hi all, please see attached the invitation letter for Scout summer camp 2009.

cttFor a change we’re joining a week long activity based camp where the Scouts get to choose from a wide range of traditional and new adventurous activities on a daily basis along with evening entertainment; sounds exciting!

The cost of £180 is a very rough estimate at the moment and bearing in mind the current financial climate our intention is to drive this down as far as possible, possibly even shaving £20 off the final cost.

Numbers attending will be capped based on the number of adults/leaders volunteering for the week and transport, so get your deposits in early. If anyone wants to attend but is prohibited by current conditions on the basis of cost, please do let us know as soon as possible as we can apply to district for a grant.

Come and join us at Bentley Copse Scout Campsite, near Shere, Surrey.

With a packed programme including, go-karting, skittles, a base chase challenge. Naturally we’ll be testing your scout skills, cooking on open fires and backwoods cooking.

None of this would be complete without lots of free time for games. Oh! And we’ll also be heading out on a trip to the fantastic Craggy Island indoor climbing centre which has facilities for all abilities.

Cost of the camp is £90, we need a minimum of 18 scouts to make this viable, but will have to cap numbers at some point. More details to follow later.

If you’d like to come along please complete the attached form.

Scouts Summer Camp 2008

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008
Scouts

The Scouts held their Summer camp deep in the New Forest at the wonderful Ferny Crofts. We got very muddy in the bomb hole, celebrated two birthdays, made a pilgrimage to the home of Scouting on Brownsea to renew our promise, built sandcastles on the beach before munching through fish & chips, and got camouflaged up by soldiers at Beaulieu.

In between we lit the odd fire, climbed very high towers, went for a bike ride, tried using a sextant, cooked over open fires using just aluminium foil instead of pans and learnt to build rafts that then fell to bits… whoops!

20080823 Scouts Summer Camp A selection of photos have been added – with more to come soon. Just click to see what we got up to.

It was a fast paced and intensive week. We’ve never before run such a large Scout camp: 2 minibuses, 2 transit vans stuffed full of kit, 26 scouts, 2 young leaders, an average of 6 adults per day, and a couple of other children tagging along for the ride. (We also chomped through 592 rashers of bacon, lots of sausages and tons of cake :-) )

Everyone was thoroughly done in by the time we came home. Let’s just say there must have been a fair number of bathrooms in Hampton Hill sporting a new tide mark the night that we came home!

Massive thanks to all the leaders and supporters who came along to make the week possible. Well done on pulling together a first rate camp. But mostly, well done to the Scouts for making the most of the time on camp.

Scouts

Hi all, a few reminders for you and some important information regarding a change in the planned programme.

Firstly to the programme changes – we’ve had to swap round the hike planned for next Friday 27th June with Superscout. Superscout, the ultimate challenge for Scouts is now next Friday 27th June so Mark will have to bring the trophy back. As usual one of the activities will be air rifle shooting and your Scout MUST return a signed permission to shoot form or they will not be able to undertake this particular discipline and will lose a large chunk of possible marks.

Easter Camp – Phew!

Friday, April 11th, 2008
Scouts

Well, the most common statement on our return was one of surprise that we didn’t come home early! Well why didn’t we come home?

The troop camping next to us did, but to be fair they weren’t as well equipped as we were, (but hey they didn’t even really try before throwing in the towel!). The conditions were amongst the most challenging I’ve ever camped in and for those whose first camp it was as Scouts, such were the conditions in 1998 on my first Easter Camp as a leader! So why did we stay?
