Water Weekend – Far from a washout!

Scouts

Given the weather’s ups and downs this camp was perfectly named! But despite the monsoon like conditions on Sunday this year’s “Water Weekend” camp was yet another runaway success You’ll see from the photos that everyone from across the Scouting district had a brilliant adventure packed time away – Scouts and Adults alike.

A huge thanks to the team who pulled this monster event together!

..and that’s Gradbatch not Gradback for the unitiated! Well as advised this was always going to be a different camp, however finding out belatedly that we were camped in one of the wettest places in England was mildly disappointing although it didn’t stop any of the activities; I suppose the family of ducks lodging with us for the week should have given us a clue!

Messing about on the water? Scouts Water Weekend 15-17 May 2009

Saturday, January 31st, 2009
Scouts

The Richmond Upon Thames Scout District are again running the incredibly popular and utterly fantastic “Water Weekend”. During the event, you’ll get an opportunity to try you hand at: sailing, canoeing, raft building, rowing and dragon boat racing … as well as camping out under canvas for a couple of nights! For those of you not already sporting them on your arm, this means you’ll have a clutch of new badges by the end of the camp. :-)

The camp will take place at Thames Young Mariners in Ham and will start on Friday 15th May at 18:00hrs and finish on Sunday 17th May at 16:00hrs. Unfortunately the camp will be limited to a fixed number for the whole of the District and 3HH will be allocated just 20 places – so we cannot guarantee you a slot.

The cost of this camp will be £55 all in including camping over on the Friday and Saturday night. If you’re interested in coming, please fill in and return the attached form with a £15 deposit.

Any questions, please just shout. Thanks! Simon

Duke of Edinburgh Silver Expedition

Saturday, June 28th, 2008
Duke of Edinburgh

Last weekend saw another group of young adventurers successfully complete their silver DofE assessed expedition.

The weather was rather mixed but luckily for all the much threatened rain held off. With far less drama, kinder weather and fewer hills than the practice expedition on the South Downs :-) as well lots of munchies, the team comfortably made their way through the 2 night / 3 day journey deep in the beautiful New Forest.

This final exped was the culmination of months of preparation and training covering camping skills, navigation, first aid and actual practice hikes.

Well done guys! Sue, Rich and Simon

DofE Bronze Practice Exped – mud, mud and more mud!

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008
Duke of Edinburgh

Last weekend saw the 2007/08 DofE Bronze teams set out on their first practice expedition. The Surrey Hills and it’s stunning countryside beckoned. They’d prepared carefully for this with lots of classroom work covering camp skills, navigation and first aid, as well as a couple of familiarisation walks before Christmas. But the indoors work can never compete with the reality of getting your feet muddy… and by goodness, they got muddy!

Following a fine start on the Saturday, the weather quickly closed in to set the tone for the rest of the weekend until the final stages of Sunday. The campsite was like a quagmire and the footpaths were worse still.

3HH Cubs go back into the Olde World of…

“ROBIN OF THE HOOD” ~ EASTER CAMP

Saturday Ye 5th to Wednesday Ye 9th April 2008

Partake in ye olde activitees with Robin’s merry men and defeat the wicked Sheriff of Nottingham? Sleep in tents, cook on open fires, construct Robin’s hideout in the woods and defend it, design your own coat-of-arms and make bows & arrows with quivers, naturally! Then of course there’s the archery, aerial trekking, grass-sledging, go-karting, hike to Biggin Hill Airport and much more…

No doubt there’ll be some medieval jesters frivolity at the Medieval Banquet! We will have a hut to sleep in on the first night, and where our camp cook will prepare all meals and for creativity and talent if the weather is bad – but here’s to fab weather and lots of free time play in the woods. Cubs love mud, fresh air and freedom, especially when you give them a theme to play with :)

Cost of the camp is £70, we need a minimum of 24 cubs to make this viable. As a point of note, 3HH scouts will also be camping at the same venue at the same time, though in a remote spot in the depths of the woods – perhaps we should ambush them? Tee-hee!!!
