Cubs Summer Newsletter

Cubs

Hi Everyone

First of all I must say that there was a top turn out last night with everyone looking good. Full uniforms all round, jumpers AND scarves! Well done!! Congratulations as well to Jacob and the rest of his team who did the best in the “Match Relay” and also had the best scores in all the cycling quizzes. Top effort!

Just a couple of things to mention. In the paperwork you took home last night there were some important forms:

1) Cycling Donation Form. This is in support of Shooting Star following the excellent visit we had last term by Dr Jean when she gave a show on her Nile expedition. It would be great to raise some money as a thank you and for the work that they do at the Shooting Star. Even £1 per cub would raise £50, so lets see if we can do that as a minimum! (Don’t forget to Gift Aid it too.)

2) Subs. As usual, please can we get these returned as soon as possible. A reminder that for the Beavers that have made the swim up there is the additional Section payment as well.

3) Highway code. These booklets are for information only, we’re in no way doing anything like the Cycling Proficiency award that many of you will do later in school and there’s no test or anything like that. But take a look at them anyway, there’s a lot of good stuff in there about safe cycling and road safety.

Finally – SUMMER CAMP – the list is up in the hut for anyone wanting to go. Please do note that there are only 40 spaces available so I would recommend getting your name down sooner rather than later. We’ll get the information out soon about cost etc, but it should be in the normal range of £70 to £80 per cub. (But like everyone else we get hit by the higher cost of food these days!) The dates are Saturday 26th July to Wednesday 30th July.

And on the subject of camps, check out the link for the 2009 CUBJAM, 2,500 Cubs descending on Gilwell Park for 6 nights for a MEGA CARNIVAL. 3HH have registered to go and this will probably be the only big camp we have next year, we hope you’ll want to come too!!

Hope you all have brilliant half term holidays. Cheers Jon

PS – Date for the diary Sunday April 26th 2009 – St George’s Day Parade in Richmond……!!!

Cubs Summer Term Programme

Monday, April 28th, 2008
Cubs

Hi Everyone. As promised last week, here’s the programme for Cubs 2008 Summer term. Lots and lots planned, including our Outdoor Challenges, Athlete and Cyclist badges. No making beds required this term – not as part of Cubs anyway!

A few things to highlight:

* Church parades are scheduled for first Sundays of May and June as normal, but in July Church Parade will be on Sunday 20th to celebrate St James’s Day.

* It’s an open invite to all parents for the last night of term, 16th July. Weather permitting we’ll have some fires going and do “schmoors” and other fireside tasties.

* Summer Camp. Dates are finalised and the site / activities booked, more info on this coming soon, e.g. costs, but be sure to get the dates in your diary (26th – 30th July) and be ready to respond quickly if you want to come!

* We’ll be requiring some additional parental help for a couple of the events, so if you can assist with any of those listed on the programme please do let us know – especially if you already have a valid CRB check!

Cheers all, see you soon. Jon and Wend

“Popcorn” and “Chocolate” take on the District

Saturday, March 1st, 2008
Cubs

Today saw Cubs from all over the Richmond Upon Thames District compete in the District Cub Challenge competition held at Teddington School. Despite the photographic evidence, there was more to it than simply shoving doughnuts down their necks!

3HH put in a determined and valiant performance with the “Popcorn” team coming in 9th and the “Chocolate” team being awarded 4th place! Well done everyone for giving it your best. Cubtastic!

Massive thanks to Sarah H and Laura T for looking after the teams during the afternoon.

The River and Riverbanks are formed by the Beavers and the new Cubs are helped to swim up by a number of Cubs.

It looks like the Beavers swimming up enjoyed it and are looking forward to having even more fun at Cubs!

3HH Cubs go back into the Olde World of…

“ROBIN OF THE HOOD” ~ EASTER CAMP

Saturday Ye 5th to Wednesday Ye 9th April 2008

Partake in ye olde activitees with Robin’s merry men and defeat the wicked Sheriff of Nottingham? Sleep in tents, cook on open fires, construct Robin’s hideout in the woods and defend it, design your own coat-of-arms and make bows & arrows with quivers, naturally! Then of course there’s the archery, aerial trekking, grass-sledging, go-karting, hike to Biggin Hill Airport and much more…

No doubt there’ll be some medieval jesters frivolity at the Medieval Banquet! We will have a hut to sleep in on the first night, and where our camp cook will prepare all meals and for creativity and talent if the weather is bad – but here’s to fab weather and lots of free time play in the woods. Cubs love mud, fresh air and freedom, especially when you give them a theme to play with :)

Cost of the camp is £70, we need a minimum of 24 cubs to make this viable. As a point of note, 3HH scouts will also be camping at the same venue at the same time, though in a remote spot in the depths of the woods – perhaps we should ambush them? Tee-hee!!!

At some point we’ll be investing our new Cubs too, will get things settled down before we do this though.

Hampton Hill Christmas Parade

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007
Beavers Cubs

As ever the annual Hampton Hill Christmas Parade was a major hit … despite the awful weather!

“Marc really enjoyed the parade, despite the weather. He must have weighed 4lbs more when he came home, in his drenched sweatshirt.

Not one layer under the sweatshirt was wet, owing to his waterproof jacket under the uniform sweatshirt. He was on such a high when he got home.”

Cubs visit gurdwara Sri Singh Sabh in Hounslow

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007
Cubs

Hi Everyone

First of all, it must be said that you guys and gals were on top form on Monday at the Gurdwara, Wend and I were totally impressed by everyone. So a big THANK YOU for being on best behavior and showing just how great 3HH Cubs are.

I had a great time, I hope you all did too, it was certainly very interesting and the Chapatis and Dhal was lovely……

A couple of points that I thought stood out were that the attitude and beliefs of the Sikh faith are pretty much the same as our own and others and similar to the aims of the Cub Scout law and promise. For example, respecting each other and looking after our things. Being kind and helpful. Treating each other equally and fairly. Sharing and giving (especially food!).

Even more Cub leaders needed

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007
Cubs

We are searching for assistant cub leaders. They will join a hugely successful group and a very supportive leadership team. The leaders try loads of activities. The fun at 3rd Hampton Hill is not only for the kids! If you want to rejoin your childhood and have loads of fun, please contact us via the enquiry page.

A final thank you from Belinda

Cubs

World Scout Jamboree 2007 logo Centenary camp has finally passed, and I feel that it was a huge success. For me the camp was exhausting but at the same time phenomenal. I was particularly inspired by the sunrise ceremony and scenes from Brownsea Island. I am immensely proud of MY! Cubs who took everything in their stride with smiles on their faces.

Happy Holidays from Akela Jon

Thursday, July 26th, 2007
Cubs

Hi Everyone – I hope all the various schools have now broken up and you’re all officially on hols.

This message is just to say a couple of things. First of all, a big thank you to everyone for last term and for your support as we handed over Snowdon pack from Belinda to me. Secondly, a huge well done to all our Cubs with various successes and achievements shown by the nember of badges we handed out. In particular those that gained their Chief Scout Silver Awards – the pinnacle of Cub Scout awards and a real demonstration to the Scouts of what they are getting – make sure these are sewn on to your Scout shirts when you move up in September!!

Cubs go rowing at Richmond

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007
Cubs

Despite the dreadful rain and cold, the 3HH cubs showed once again that they can’t be beaten. We went to Richmond and were lucky enough to take out two massive rowing boats. Soaking wet, we explored up the river towards Twickenham before turning around and battling the tide back to Richmond Bridge once more!

This February half term we had a fantastic time on a Harry Potter Camp. We experienced the Hogwarts express, falconry, making our own wands and broomsticks, trudging through mud and many other adventures.
