3rd Hampton Hill Scout Group

We’re delighted to invite all members, friends and cohorts of 3HH to our 60 year celebratory birthday event on Saturday 12 July 2008 between 3pm – 8pm!

The format of the day will be very relaxed allowing you to come and go as you please:

Venue: 3HH Scout HQ and Games/Activities on the Recreation Ground

Food: 3HH will supply burgers, bangers and veggie stuff with buns / rolls plus salad and condiments. We’ll also be cutting up a monster celebration cake at about 6pm if you’d like to stick around.

Drinks: 3HH will lay on some soft drinks. Please feel free if you’d like to bring along your own bottles of adult juice (within reason ). We will not be running a bar on the day.

Entertainment: We’ll be organising tons of stuff to keep you occupied on the day – or you could just choose to hang out and chill if you like! It’s your call. There will be the usual giant games such as jenga, chess, connect 4 and twister – as well as the typical scout classics. For those of you feeling slightly more energetic there will most likely be a bouncy castle, some mini golf and a few rounds of softball / quick cricket etc.

The event is not a fund raiser and we won’t be charging for anything. But we will put out a donations box in the event you want to contribute something to cover the costs. We’d just love to see you on the day to say thanks for all of your help and support, and to look forward to the next 60 years of fun and adventure.

Please remember that the day is simply about having a bit of fun and celebrating what an awesome group we are. Look forward to seeing you on the day!

This year’s family camp was by anyone’s standards simply first class. The weather was stunning (certainly a contrast to the snow at Easter Camp!), activities were adventurous and there was plenty of lazying around in the sunshine …well for some of the time at least! The (thankfully) short AGM was even topped off by an incredible 60th birthday fireworks extravaganza to celebrate the Group’s diamond anniversary.

The photos speak for themselves. For those of you who came along, we were delighted to see you. For those of you who didn’t, well there’s always next year; everyone’s welcome – experienced camper or not.

After the evening meal on Saturday many of those camping took part in the wide game (thanks to Ian and Mel).

Martin (the Group Executive Chair) then led the Group in the Annual Review and AGM at which we reviewed the year. Richard, the Group Scout Leader, talked about a year packed with activities and the continuing challenge of recruiting additional adult help to run the growing sections, each of the Section Leaders said a few words about the highlights and achievements, we adopted the accounts for financial year and re-elected the Group Executive Committee. As a reminder, we are still looking for additional parent reps on the committee – one for for each of the Sections.

Akela’s Wend and Jon lead us in a campfire with a few 3HH campfire favourites: “Oh you’ll never go to heaven”, “A little bird with a yellow bill” and “Oh Helena”.

Saturday’s finale was a really fantastic ‘cosmic’ fireworks display. There were many sounds of delight, with oohs and aahs, from the assembled crowd – including 2 other groups on the campsite which we invited to attend and watch the display with us. Big thanks to Richard, Ben and John. A special mention of thanks to Danny at Tapps of Hampton Hill for the supply of the fireworks.

These events never come together by accident, and lots of people put huge efforts into making it happen. But a special thanks in particular goes to Mark Hamilton for both his unstinting advance planning and on the day short-order cooking! Fantastic! Thanks Mark.

For those of you who are joining us at this year’s family camp please see below:

Please arrive Saturday at 12pm and depart Sunday around 1:30-2pm after helping clean up the campsite and the closing ceremony at Walton Firs Campsite, Convent Lane, Cobham, Surrey, KT11 1HB. We will be located at the lower field campsite and have hired the training hut – this is to the far left as you enter the campsite from the car park.

The Diamond Anniversary Celebration Badge is now being given out to All Members of 3rd Hampton Hill. The Badge can be worn as an Occaisional Badge – left hand side of Uniform over the heart (or above the pocket and World badge).

Spare badges will also be available to buy as souvineers/collectors items at a cost of £ 1 per badge – see your Section Leader if you would like to buy additional badges.

This year the Group celebrates it’s 60th year. The Group was officially registered in 1948.

We have created a special badge 3HH Celebration Badge which we will soon be wearing on our uniform to celebrate and mark this occasion.

Every member of the Group will receive a badge. Badges should be available after the Easter break.

A limited number of badges will also be available to buy as a ‘badge swap’ or memento or as a gift for others.

Application forms are now available here for our fantastic annual Family Camp.

We’ve lined up a cracking set of activities for you including: abseiling & climbing, archery, air-rifle shooting, orienteering, maze, adventure course, pioneering, rounders, volleyball, cricket … to name a few and a campfire as well. After the campfire there will be a wide game, followed by a social gathering in the hut or around the fire for adults.

The camp is open to all 3rd Hampton Hill members and their families. All children must bring an adult or two! Please note that you are responsible for your children; the leadership team are there to run the camp.

We must have all replies and completed CRB forms back by 28th March 2008. If you have any further queries please contact your Section Leader.

We will be holding our ever popular Family Camp again this year at Walton Firs Campsite, Cobham. Of course this year it will also be a chance to celebrate our Diamond Anniversary. This camp will be a great way to celebrate 60 years of Scouting at 3rd Hampton Hill.

The Camp will run on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th May 2008.

There will be a Camp Fire on Saturday night with a quick review of our achievements for last year, there might even be some celebration Birthday Cake, and a look at developments and plans and where we are headed in the future.

As we celebrate our 60th Year it would be wonderful to gather together some memories and build a picture of the last 60 years!

Celebrating our Diamond Anniversary 1948 – 2008.

60 Years of Scouting.

2008 is another Milestone and a year of celebration for the Group.

The 3rd Hampton Hill (St James) Scout Group was officially registered in 1948. Take a look at the History Section for a quick summary of the Group History. This year we will be taking a look back but will also be looking to the future once again.

Lets hope that 2008 is another ‘fantastic journey’ for the Group! Welcome aboard!

Just a few more days till the end of 2007. What a memorable year for Scouting and a year of achievements and successes at 3rd Hampton Hill. Numbers are again strong and the annual census Group Membership return in Jan 08 looks like it will give a healthy return – will we go above 150 in 2008?

2008 is the 60th Diamond Celebration Year for the Group. We already have a celebration camp planned for May at Walton Firs and no doubt there will be many other exciting and interesting activies to enjoy throughout the year. Watch these pages for more information and announcements . . . please also come forward and speak with any of the Leadership Team if you have any ideas or suggestions for events or activities to help Celebrate the Diamond Anniversary of The Group.

As always we are looking for additional adult support and help in the Sections which is vital to assist the Section Leaders with providing an active and varied programme. Please speak with your Section Leader early in the New Term and see what help you might be able to provide.

We have plans for a Spring Fayre early in March. We hope you will join us and support us in raising funds for the Group. Funds will be spent on more projects and tasks in 2008 which will continue to improve and maintain the Group Headquarters. We are also speaking with Hampton Hill Junior School about their possible plans to replace the Minibus which we share.

2008 is shaping up to being another busy year for The Group!

We are getting close to completing the design for the 60th Celebration Badge. The main colours will be black (borders and dividing lines) with Silver Background. It will look something like the badge above.

Hopefully we will have these made up early next year and everyone will be able to wear them on their Uniform as an occasional badge in 2008. They will also be available to buy for others as a memento of the Group’s 60th year in 2008!

2008 is the 60th Anniversary of 3rd Hampton Hill Scout Group.

To celebrate this wonderful milestone we are running a competition to design a new badge for all 3HH Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, ex 3HH Explorers and Leaders to wear on their uniform during 2008. Others will be able to use it for camp blankets or as a highly valued and exciting souvenir.

To recognise 60 years, the badges will be diamond shaped as shown on the right. What we need you to do is come up with a simple design that we could use that could represent “60”, 3HH, 1948 – 2008, Moving On Moving Up, Diamonds, or any other ideas you might have.

2008 will be another milestone in the History of the Group. 3rd Hampton Hill was officially registered in 1948 and hence 2008 will be our 60th Birthday!

3rd Hampton Hill (St James’s) was registered in 1948 by Stan Childs and George Casey (hence the name of the current scout headquarters, The George Stanley Hall).

We are just in the early stages of trying to design a suitable badge to mark this occasion – so watch this space for developments and more news.

The George Stanley Hall (our Headquarters) will also be 10 Years Old in 2008! We continue to make improvements to the building and facilities as time, resources and funding allow. Of most significance this year has been a new staircase and shelving in the camp store and a complete resurfacing of the main pathway. An important part of our success is having a dedicated HQ which we can use for all Section Meetings and a wide range of other events and activities.
