Cub Bug Hunt in Bushy Park 2023

Date: 28th Jun 2023 Author: Matt Rogers

We were fortunate to have the wonderful Connor Butler from Royal Parks meet both our Cub packs in Bushy Park this 14 and 19th of June. He granted us special VIP access to a private part of the park for some bug sweeping. The Cubs collected creatures in their nets and popped them in jars for closer inspection. Connor was constantly surrounded by enthusiastic Cubs clamouring to show him their discoveries.

When Connor said, ‘Who would like some gloves so they can pull apart deer poo?’ We had never seen so many Cub hands shoot up that fast! We learnt that the ancient Egyptians worshipped the dung beetle as the bringer of the new day, and that we certainly had some dung beetle worshippers in our packs!

Connor was outstanding with both the Cubs and the bugs. Both packs were excited, engaged and did us proud with their behaviour. Great sessions!
