Volunteers and Vacancies
Worth their weight in gold.
Without our volunteers, there would not be any scouting for the young people. Volunteers are the core of our group. Scouting is a progressive programme of activities designed to help young develop their personalities and confidence. It provides a foundation for great values to live by: helpfulness, friendship, cooperation; respect for self and for others; understanding and tolerance; integrity based on loyalty, honesty and trust; leadership, resourcefulness and courage in the face of difficulties.
What could be more important to nurturing the citizens of the future?
This is why it matters profoundly and why we need even more support from volunteers, donors, employers and decision-makers like you. With just a little of your resources – time, talent, money, and goodwill – we can make a huge difference.
We welcome adults of all ages, interests and backgrounds to support Scouting. There is no need to have been involved in Scouting or Guiding before; all that is required is a willingness to give some of your time and a positive attitude!
It’s not all outdoor adventure for our adult volunteers, they help across a range of subjects, providing much needed organisational support, on logistics, training, mentoring, administration, marketing, fundraising and as charity trustees.
The list of opportunities is almost endless.
Our approach focuses on what you want to get out of volunteering with Scouts, while respecting how much time you can offer. Over 90% of Scout volunteers say that their skills and experiences have been useful in their work or personal life.
Current adult volunteer vacancies
- QM – The Quartermaster or ‘QM’ keeps our camp-store clear and tidy and looks after the camping and associated equipment so it remains in good repair. This ensures that all our members, be they our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers or of course our excellent adult team, remain nice and warm and dry whilst they’re at camp. If you like doing ‘stuff’ with your hands, have odd bits of spare time and are happy to find spares and either manage the repairs or do them yourself, this is a role for you. If this is for you, then Contact Us now!
- Scout Leaders – We already have people in our Scout Leadership team, but we’re looking to the future as we’ll be losing two when their job moves, so there is no better time to come and dip your toe in the water. Both troops run the same programme, all preparation is shared, we camp as one troop; there’s definitely no ‘us & them’, well until they compete against each other of course! Scouts is our most adventurous section and quite possibly our most fulfilling as you see our young people achieve what they never thought possible. If this is for you, then Contact Us now!
- Chair – The Chair leads our Executive Committee or ‘Exec’, the team that ensures the smooth running of the Group and looks after the HQ, supporting our section leaders so they can just get on with running Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. The Exec meets around once every six weeks or so for around 90 minutes. Outside of the meeting, the Chair tends to deal with HQ matters, for example things like checking we have the best energy deal whilst the Group Scout Leaders look after the actual Scouting activities. The role would suit someone who works part time or is not currently looking for work. If this is for you, then Contact Us now!
