Squirrels Week 3 – Animals, Imagination and a Jungle Full of Fun!

Date: 4th Jul 2025 Author: Matt Rogers

This week, our Squirrels group went wild — in the best way! With 10 energetic Squirrels joining us for Week 3, our theme was all about Animals, and we packed in stories, games and lots of creative building.

We started the evening with our usual Welcome and Hello Song, and gave each Squirrel a chance to share something about their day or any new adventures they’d had. It’s always lovely hearing their stories and watching their confidence grow each week.

📖 Story Time: This Tree is Just for Me

Our story this week was the beautifully illustrated This Tree is Just for Me, setting the tone for everything animal-related to come. The Squirrels listened brilliantly and were soon eager to jump into our animal-themed activities.

🐒 Animal Action Game: Musical Statues with a Twist

Next up was a new game — a twist on musical statues! When the music stopped, the adult leading the game held up a picture from the story and shouted out the name of the animal. Whether it was lions, monkeys, or snakes, the Squirrels had to leap into action, copying the animal’s sounds and movements. Safe to say… it got very loud and very silly!

🐛 Creative Time: Lego, Duplo, and Wild Creations

For our creative session, we brought out the Lego and Duplo, asking the Squirrels to build anything inspired by animals or creatures. Their imaginations took over, and the results were incredible:

  • A Bug Hotel

  • An Aquarium

  • A full Jungle with river and campfire scene

  • And many other marvellous animal-inspired builds!

The concentration and teamwork on display were just fantastic.

🎉 Ending with a BRAVO!

We wrapped up the session with our loud and proud B-R-A-V-O chant and the much-loved Goodbye Squirrels Song, sending everyone home with a smile (and maybe a few animal noises still echoing around the hall!).

We can’t wait to see what fun Week 4 brings.
See you all next week!
