3HH Beavers Enjoy Fantastic Fun Day at Gilwell Park

Date: 16th Jun 2026 Author: Matt Rogers

Five of our Beavers, accompanied by leaders, Fatema Walker and Rich Moody and two fantastic parent helpers, enjoyed an action-packed day at Gilwell Park’s annual Fun Day on Saturday 13th June. Blessed with beautiful sunshine from start to finish, it was the perfect setting for a memorable day of adventure.

The morning was packed with excitement as the Beavers enjoyed grass sledging, archery, inflatable activities, bungee jumping and a fascinating animal encounter, where they met Cinnamon the snake and, for those feeling brave, even had the chance to gently stroke her!

At lunchtime, everyone tucked into a picnic lunch while enjoying the spectacular Bird of Prey Show. A few of the Beavers made the most of the open space with a lively game of football!  After lunch, the Beavers were treated to a well-earned ice cream, before setting off for the afternoon’s adventures.

The afternoon saw the Beavers challenge themselves on the indoor climbing wall as well as cooling off in the ever-

popular Splash Zone, where there were plenty of smiles and a few very soggy Beavers!

One of the highlights of the day was taking a group photo beneath the famous Gilwell Oak. The tree holds a special place in Scouting history. When Robert Baden-Powell established Gilwell Park as the home of Scout leader training in 1919, the oak became a natural gathering place. For more than a century, thousands of Scout volunteers from around the world have met, learned and celebrated beneath its branches, making it the perfect place for our Beavers to capture a special memory.

The feedback from the Beavers said it all. Thomas, aged 6, summed up the day perfectly by asking, “When are we coming back?” while Freddie, aged 7, beamed, “I loved it here!” The other Beavers were equally enthusiastic, chatting excitedly about their favourite parts of the day and already asking when they could visit Gilwell Park again.

A huge thank you to our wonderful parent helpers for giving up their Saturday to support the trip, and to everyone at Gilwell Park for putting on such a fantastic event. It was a day full of adventure, friendship and new experiences, creating memories that our Beavers will treasure for years to come. Here’s to the next one!
