We are getting close to completing the design for the 60th Celebration Badge. The main colours will be black (borders and dividing lines) with Silver Background. It will look something like the badge above.
Hopefully we will have these made up early next year and everyone will be able to wear them on their Uniform as an occasional badge in 2008. They will also be available to buy for others as a memento of the Group’s 60th year in 2008!
The latest set of intrepid Scouts were invested into the troop just before Christmas on Hampton Court Palace ice rink. A distinctly chilly, but forever rememberable, event!

In recognition of his hard work and significant achievements in maintaining and improving the George Stanley Hall (the 3HH Scout Building) this year John W has been awarded the Scouting Thanks Badge.
John has been instrumental in making a number of improvements complete successfully. His continued sterling efforts to maintain the building and grounds have been of significant benefit and help to all users.

We have all been invited to the Richmond Upon Thames Scout District Carol Service. Every Group and all Sections are invited.
** UPDATE 8 DEC 2007 - The carol service has unfortunately had to be been cancelled **
This is a district organised event where we’ll be joining with all other Richmond Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, so please can we encourage everyone to come along to witness the switching on of the tree lights, have a jolly good sing song and partake of some seasonal refreshments.
Gates open at 6:30pm and we will congregate in front of the White house for a 7:00pm start. The communal singing will finish around 8:00pm, at which point refreshments will be available.
As coats will need to be worn there is no need to wear full uniform, however, uniformed members should wear their Scarves. Everyone is welcome, parents especially so but need to stand back and let the youngsters and Leaders stand together.
When… Saturday 8th December Where… Marble Hill Park, outside the White House Times… Assemble from 6.30pm for a 7pm start and a 8pm finish Who… All beavers, cubs, scouts, explorers and their parents and friends Uniform… Not necessary, but group scarf should be visible.
This last Sunday saw 3HH join the congregation at St James’s Church in Hampton Hill for the annual Christingle celebration. It was a wonderful service taken by the newly appointed vicar.
Everyone had a great time and it certainly helped us reflect upon the real meaning of Chiristmas before we all get overtaken by events.
An introductionary walk was held for the new Bronze and Silver groups to give them a taste of what it is like to navigate with a map, carry some kit on your back and make a meal when they arrived back at the hall.
The expedition started from Wimbledon Station, across Wimbledon Common, through Richmond Park and then back to Hampton Hill. The Silver team also put in an extra loop around the the Petersham and Ham water meadows.
Overall the Bronze team covered about 14 kms with the Silvers managing 17 kms. It was an excellent event and really helped to make much of what has been discussed in the ‘classroom’ a little more real.

Oh and if anyone does find the lost compass, we’ve love to get it back again!
Apologies but this letter has just arrived from the Richmond District regarding surplus funds from the summer Centenary Camp. It outlines the options to either have these returned or to use them as a donation to support the purchase of Walton Firs Campsite. Full details are in the attached letter. Responses are required by 8 December 2007.
It is entirely up to yourselves to decide on a refund, it’s £16 per eligible cub / scout. But as a Group we would strongly encourage you to consider supporting Walton Firs in this way to protect the site from developers and to ensure it remains available as a Scouting resource for your own children and for the many thousands of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to come.
To make things easy, the District have elected to use a “no response required” system. If they don’t hear from you then they will assume you are happy to donate your surplus. Please note as well that by making the donation we can claim Gift Aid for the Group, so this will directly benefit our our Cubs too.
So options are:
1) Do nothing, the District will donate your surplus to the Walton Firs Foundation.
2) Complete the tear off slip and return it as required and the District will issue a refund to you directly.
