As I gaze out of the window this morning and watch the rain I transport myself back to the summer and a reservior full of young people enjoying water activities. Splash! (’EauZone’) the water activities aspect of the World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) was held at Alton Water, near Ipswich in Suffolk. Every day 4000 participants took part in a range of water activities. A truly memorable experience for all those involved. To see all those happy smiling faces at the end of each session was a really fantastic sight which left you with a really good feeling and made all the hard work and preparation worthwhile.

Well, what a weekend! Gorgeous sunny warm(ish) days coupled with literally freezing nights saw a smaller squad from 3rd Hampton Hill at our annual assault on the National Scout Air Rifle Championships held at Bisley’s excellent facilities, the world home of Small-bore shooting.
As usual we took part in the main event which comprised 6yd air rifle and pistol, rifle knock-out and field target, along with various of our team trying biathlon, own pistol and rifle and .22 small bore rifle and the 300m full bore rifle. This event has grown over the years and this year’s was the second biggest event in the NSRA’s history with 684 competitors, eclipsed only by the 2002 Commonwealth games for which the centre was built. How did we do? Read on…..

In preparation for next week’s Bisley NRSA competition, some of the team (and a few interlopers!) squeezed in a little bit of last minute practice at the HQ.

At last we hope to see the end of the annual “boggy pathway and soggy shoes” experience.
The beginnings of a new path emerged today.
Unfortunately due to recent rain the delivery truck wasn’t able to drop the load of new tarmac straight onto the pathway as hoped, but instead left it at the entrance to the main playing field. The only option was a load of “willing” volunteers and a fleet of wheelbarrows.
You can click on the picture to see more blood, sweat and tears…
But - we’re just about half way there now… With another 20 tonnes being delivered in a fortnight ready to start all over once more!

The Beavers enjoyed another brilliant District Fun Day at Walton Firs. Reindeer hats, crate stacking and big roaring fires were the order of the day. They loved it!

On Friday 21 September 2007, in support of the annual Christian Aid fundraiser, 3HH’s scouts transformed the hall into a fancy Parisian tea room
The idea was to raise awareness of the plight of some of our poorest countries while raising money, through donations, in return for tea and cake. So what better way to help reduce poverty in the world than by having a brew?
The scouts produced endless buckets of tea and dished up masses of pizza, cakes and other assorted sugary stuff to feed their guests.
Overall the evening was an amazing success, everyone had a huge amount of fun and we raised £133.98 for this very important charity!

The first proper night of the new DofE season kicked off last night. Everyone gathered at the 3HH HQ and spent some time getting to know one another and played some hotly contested games.
Next week the real work begins with map work and route planning practice…

It was a double celebration yesterday for Snowdon pack.
Akela Jon took over as the new Wednesday night leader ably supported by Diana.
In addition, a new set of Sixers were promoted to lead the pack onto great new things! Well done everyone.

Last night saw the culmination of a fantastic effort from the Hampton DofE Silver team. Following up from a determined and gutsy final expedition in July which saw heaps of rain, sun and then lots more rain - they gave a tremendous wrap up presentation. Well done and good luck for your DofE Gold adventures!

You can see more of their final adventures by clicking on the photo…
As the current ‘Silvers’ leave us, we are delighted to see a new group of Silver and Bronze teams sign up for the challange.

Here is your opportunity to review the Centenary year of Scouting in the salubrious surroundings of the O2 Dome (formerly the Millennium Dome) and see one of 3rd Hampton Hill’s finest amongst those taking part!
LIVE 07 is our Festival of Scouting, an extravaganza to celebrate the best of Scouting in 2007. It’ll be the perfect opportunity to reflect on our Scouting history, remember the fun times in 2007 and look towards the next 100 years and beyond. Two epic shows will be held in The O2 arena in London, with a capacity of 15,000 per show, to bring together all the elements of Scouting in 2007 in one day, in one place.

Why not click on the WSJ logo to take a look?…
But for 3HH the partying doesn’t stop in 2007. 2008 will also be a big year for us; it will be our official Diamond (60th) Anniversary!

OK! So camp leader Paul and Akela Belinda beat me to it. But i can’t let this go without supplying my own ‘Beavers on centenary camp’ update.
It was four days into camp for me when the Beavers arrived, full of energy and enthusiasm, guess I was already running on adrenalin by then!

To kick off the evening a quick game of rounders was closely followed by dinner. 3HH were lucky enough to have our own hut, so we disappeared and laid out our beds - 7 to a dorm with a mix of girls and boys in each.
We joined back up with the other Beavers and went on a torch walk (not really dark enough) but kids and torches - say no more they love it.

Centenary camp has finally passed, and I feel that it was a huge success. For me the camp was exhausting but at the same time phenomenal. I was particularly inspired by the sunrise ceremony and scenes from Brownsea Island. I am immensely proud of MY! Cubs who took everything in their stride with smiles on their faces.
